oth nationalism and regionalism are rising steadily in Northeast Asia now. By and large, political imperatives are working toward nationalism, but economic imperatives are working toward regionalism. As a result, we find "hot economics" and "cold politics" but little institutional linkage between them in Northeast Asia's international relations.
