The U.S.-ROK Alliance Remains Critical:"We Need to Foster It and Posture Our Forces to Enable the Alliance To Transform and Grow Stronger"
We have plans that take a look at both an all-out attack from North Korea and instability in North Korea," Gen. Walter Sharp, commander of the U.S. Forces Korea (USFK) and Korea-U.S. Combined Forces Command (CFC), was quoted by Yonhap News Agency as saying, adding instability means humanitarian disasters, a civil war, or potential loss of control of the state's nuclear weapons.
"We hope we never have to execute those, but we're prepared for the full range of operations," said Gen. Sharp, who concurrently serves as Chief of the United Nations Command.
To Create "An Advanced Security Posture That Reaches Out to the World"
The Lee Myung-bak administration, which set sail in February 2008, seeks to develop Korea into "a Country that Stands Tall in the World Through Advancement." It is committed to realizing a "Global Korea" that fulfills its roles and responsibilities in the international community.
